Greenways for families

Enjoy stretches of the cycle route that are ideal for a family outing or a family weekend away, notably using stretches of greenways accessible to all, where only ‘soft traffic’ (like cyclists and pedestrians) is allowed.

Family cycling outing along the Roger Lapébie cycle track

  • Bordeaux - Sauveterre de Guyenne
  • 55km

The Roger Lapébie cycle track has been set up along a former railway line linking Latresne to Sauveterre-de-Guyenne. From the centre of the city of Bordeaux, cross the Pont Saint-Jean Bridge to reach the cycle track. Then the 55km-long route takes you through La Pimpine Valley before heading up to Créon. After that, it winds across slopes, woods and fields to reach Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, in the midst of vineyards. This track is very well equipped with services and information panels.

Greenway along the Canal de Garonne in Tarn-et-Garonne

  • Agen - Toulouse
  • 68km
  • Return by train

Follow the greenway beside the canal. This stretch is magnificent in many parts, as you cycle in the shade of great plane trees and beside the lake at St Nicolas-de-la-Grave. At Moissac, cross the canal-bridge over the Tarn River to reach the town centre with its splendid abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage trail. Also stop at Montech, Castelsarrasin and Valence-d’Agen, not forgetting the medieval fortified bastide town of Auvillar, 5km from the canal. This 68km-long greenway is well surfaced.

From Tarn to Garonne via the greenway along the Canal de Montech

  • Montech - Montauban
  • 10km
  • Station at Montauban

This recently developed greenway, dating from 2014, runs along the towpath beside the Canal de Montech, allowing you to reach Lacourt-Saint-Pierre, 6km along the way, in safety. The surface is suitable for cyclists and rollerskaters. Marvel at Montech’s unique sloping lock, boats shifted up and down by means of locomotive engines. Greenway along the Canal du Midi from Toulouse to Le Seuil de Naurouze

  • Toulouse - Port-Lauragais
  • 52km
  • Return by train

This is a very high-quality greenway much appreciated by the inhabitants of Toulouse. Using the former towpath beside the Canal du Midi, reach Le Seuil de Naurouze in 52km. Take in the canal and its impressive works (locks, canal-bridges, overflow constructions, etc) as well as the villages of the Lauragais area. There are numerous spots where you can enjoy a stop, with well-equipped halts. The greenway is tarmacked so rollerskaters can make use of it easily too.

This greenway hugs the historic Canal de la Robine, linking the centre of Narbonne to Port-la-Nouvelle on the Mediterranean.
